Discovering you’re expecting a baby is one of the most exciting (and, let’s be honest here, daunting) times of your life.

As well as all of the hopes and dreams, not to mention the sickness and exhaustion, you’ve got the thrill of what’s to come.

As parents, you have the vast majority of the joys and excitement. After all, you’re the ones experiencing the pregnancy, you’ll give birth and you’ll help your baby grow into an amazing person. But for your friends and family, there’s also a lot of excitement – and best of all, you get to be the person to tell them!

In the last few years, thanks to the advent of the internet, pregnancy announcements have become very creative. There are videos, t-shirts, pranks and games which people have laid on to tell their friends and family that their little bundle of joy is on the way.

So, which should you choose when making your big announcement?

The status

Most of us now have a social media account of some description. You might update your Instagram every ten seconds, or you might post on Facebook once in a blue moon, but if you want to tell everyone your happy news at the same time, social media is the way to go.

Tried and tested measures include a scan picture, a formal “we’re very happy to announce” or someone funnier and more personal.

The video

Thanks to modern phone and video technology, you don’t need to be Steven Spielberg to come up with a video that looks the part!

Video announcements fill YouTube and there are some great ideas on there if you’re looking for some inspiration. From a song parody like this to the ridiculously cute dog announcement you can pilfer someone else’s method or come up with your own.

Alternatively, you can go down the celebrity route like Tom and Giovanna Fletcher (he of McFly) who’ve done exceptionally creative announcements for each of their pregnancies. For their first, they carved pumpkins and for the second went down a games console route.

Again, there’s a huge amount of inspiration out there if you’d like a photograph to announce your special news. You could go for sweet or funny, but make sure it’s true to your personality so your friends and family can truly appreciate it!

The T-shirt

Finally, why not say it with clothing? If this isn’t your first baby there are so many gorgeous t-shirts and outfits available for them to announce their news.

T-shirts for big sisters can be personalised, whilst little boys can have capes and be superheroes (who’re expecting their very own sidekick!)
