When you have your first baby, its all very new. Babies don’t come with an instruction manual, so unless you’ve had a lot to do with babies, you will probably read every book going on how to care for your baby.
However, things are very much different when you have your 2nd child. You’ve been there, done that and have the bag under your eyes to prove it. So there are a few things you may do differently between baby number one and baby number two.
1. Relax
Baby 1:
You finish work to go on maternity leave. You potter around the house, having a nap when you feel tired, having a long lunch dreaming of what you are going to do when baby is here. You sort the baby’s room out several times and re pack your hospital baby. House is spotless as you cant stop cleaning.
Baby 2:
You finish work to go on maternity leave. You chase a toddler around trying to get whatever the hell they have just put into their mouth, off them. You eat your toddlers left over lunch as you just don’t have time (or energy) to make your own. Babies room is a mess as you’ve just thrown things in there, knowing that baby wont be in there for a good 6 months anyway, so no need to sort through it all yet. Your house looks like a bomb has gone off and you don’t care as your toddler has gone down for a nap so you’re going to do the same, sod the dishes!
2. Sterilising
Baby 1:
If a dummy/toy/teether hit the floor you immediately sterilised it or if you are out, go and buy a new one
Baby 2:
who cares if the baby gets a few germs, your first born has eaten dirt straight from the garden, licked the dogs nose and they were fine. You just clean the dummy by sticking it in your own mouth first and giving it back to baby.
3. Nappy changing
Baby 1:
You changed the baby with out fail ever hour and after every feed, without fail.
Baby 2:
You change the baby when either the nappy is getting very heavy (like dragging on the floor) or a bit whiffy.
4. Feeding
Baby 1:
you make sure your baby is fed every 3 hours on the dot. Even if baby is asleep, you will wake them to ensure they dont starve.
Baby 2:
When baby is hungry, they will cry for food, only then will you feed them. There is now way on this earth you are going to wake a sleeping baby, you just got the bugger to sleep!
5. Entertainment
Baby 1:
There is no way your baby is going to watch load of rubbish TV. They can only watch programs that are educational.
Baby 2:
Baby watches every episode of pepper pig or paw patrol as that is ALL your toddler wants to watch and you have got shit to do and need a 5 minute brake.
